The 4-story 38,000 square-foot structural steel building will house full-motion flight simulators, fixed training devices, computer rooms, offices, classrooms, and a fourth-floor exterior employee lounge. To accommodate the 40-foot-tall flight simulator bays, long-span composite girders and tall slender columns at the building’s base were implemented. The building utilizes multi-tiered concentric braced frames for the structure’s lateral force-resisting system and drilled piers at the foundation. Field welds were eliminated entirely by designing fully bolted connections to reduce the construction schedule. Additionally, prefabricated wall panels were implemented to save additional construction schedules.
