A four-phased gate expansion of DEN Concourse A East, housing Frontier Airlines service out of DEN. The project consists of 83,000 SF of remodeled space and 37,000 SF of new space which includes 14 new gates, additional waiting areas, and an attached 8,000 SF maintenance facility. The expansion will provide Frontier Airlines with greater passenger volume capability and the ability to offer passengers more travel options, modern amenities, and quicker boarding times. The added building area, which will house a maintenance facility and a new hold room, is comprised of multiple building systems including CMU and steel construction with braced frame lateral force-resisting systems. Design challenges included the retrofit of the existing concourse for an added elevator and the use of non-traditional building elements such as a Vierendeel truss, which was needed to satisfy architectural and existing building constraints.
