North High School

HCL provided civil engineering and land surveying for the historic North High School, originally built in 1911. The Beaux-Arts style building is on the National Register of Historic Places and was designated a historic landmark by the City and County of Denver. This renovation project involved flood mitigation to address flooding of the lower level class room during major storm event.  HCL designed a storm sewer system that involved boring a pipeline under the bridge linking the 1911 building and the 1925 building.  Designed upstream improvement to capture and route the storm water away from the buildings.  In addition, site improvements involving the following facilities:

  • Artificial turf field
  • All-weather track surface
  • Replace and expand the tennis courts

The facilities were design to meet the Colorado High School Athletic Association guidelines.
